In its latest publication of building approval data the ABS has updated its research on the average size of new residential dwellings. In WA the average size of new home was 244sqm (marginally below the national figure of 248sqm). NSW are building the biggest average size family homes at 270sqm, followed by Queensland 254sqm and Victoria 253sqm.

The 8.1% growth in the average size of new homes in WA between 2000-01 (226sqm) and 2008-09 is again marginally below the 9% increase in the national figure.
